Courmayeur is iconic but traditional with cobbled streets and old world charm in abundance.
Courmayeur is perhaps the most internationally renowned of the three resorts we use in Italy's Aosta Valley. Nestling comfortably at the foot of mighty Mont Blanc, Courmayeur is a delightful, traditional Alpine village, at the heart of which is a maze of interesting, narrow cobbled alleys. The town is largely traffic-free and it's lined with charming shops, fancy boutiques and welcoming cafes and restaurants. The scenery here is amongst the best of any ski resort in the world.
Courmayeur boasts 100kms of exciting downhill runs, from easy to challenging. The Baby Bowl is a great beginners area, serviced by its very own (slow moving) drag lift, making it ideal for learning. For intermediates, Courmayeur is a 'red run heaven' with loads of wide pistes of varying gradients. Internazionale is fantastic and holds some great snow long into the season. Diretta and Bertollini are the order of the day for the more advanced. They're steep, challenging and seem to change day to day.

Courmayeur has two main areas to stay - the town of Courmayeur itself, and the nearby village of Dolonne. Dolonne is a sleepy village and pretty quiet in the evenings. Courmayeur has a number of lively bars, popular with locals and holidaymakers alike. There are a number of restaurants and pizzerias, catering for all cuisines, tastes and budgets. For the ultimate après-ski experience, the Super G bar on the side of the slopes starts the party in the afternoon with the main cable car running late into the evening to whisk you safely back to ground level. Courmayeur's nightlife has something for everyone.
In the Aosta Valley in general and Courmayeur in particular you'll find life in the slow lane. Traditional Italian life rules and so you're guaranteed taking things easy and plenty of relaxation. The thermal spa (QC Terme) in nearby Pre St Didier is a firm favourite with visitors to Courmayeur, but book early!
A trip on the Monte Bianco Skyway is a must. The 360° rotating cable cars go from Courmauyeur to high up on Mont Blanc offering incredible and unrivalled views of the surrounding mountains, the town and the Aosta Valley. This is sometimes included on your lift pass, so please check with us for more information (transport to from the base station isn't included).
Although many hotels in Courmayeur offer half-board and have in-house restaurants, there is a great choice of places to eat out. In fact, Courmayeur is known as being a foodie destination with many celebrity chefs visiting and hosting events here. Fine dining is everywhere with artisan dishes and local produce the order of the day.
As with most places in Italy, there is a good choice of family run restaurants offering inexpensive but great quality food. A firm favourite with Interski clients is the Ristorante La Boite which sits very close on the edge of the town. Within the main cobbled street you will find a number of laid-back cafés - no visit to Courmayeur is complete without a visit to the famous Caffé Della Posta.
All of the hotels in Courmayeur are either in the town itself or the nearby village of Dolonne. The hotels we use are either a short walk to the main cable car or the Dolonne gondola. Those which are a little further from the lifts offer a shuttle service.
If you're hiring ski equipment from us, this includes storage on the mountain to avoid you carrying anything. If you are bringing your own equipment, we can arrange storage on the mountain also - please ask for details of costs.
Although the overall length of piste in Courmayeur is more limited compared with other resorts, it offers some very challenging red and black runs which are particularly good for working on improving technique.
Many families ski in Courmayeur every winter and there is a creche/childcare centre on the mountain. Many hotels have pool and spa facilities also are always an added attraction for families. However, for young children and beginner skiers we think Courmayeur can be a more challenging resort to ski and there may be better options. Speak to one of our friendly team for more advice.
Courmayeur's high altitude and prominent position beneath Mont Blanc ensure good conditions throughout the winter. The season normally begins in late November and finishes around mid-April. As with all ski resorts, early and late season snow conditions can be a little more unpredictable. February is generally the best month for the snow, but also the busiest. For good conditions and a quieter resort in general, January and March offer the best value.
Courmayeur can be reached relatively easy by car from the UK with the journey from Calais taking around 9-10hrs. Please note that during the winter months it is obligatory to either have winter tyres fitted or carry snow chains in your vehicle.
